Sometimes, the only way to be heard… is to make noise.

Hi everyone!

I’m stopping by since it’s been a couple of weeks, and I wanted to share a couple of things, but the first thing I want to do is thank our ever-growing fan base. It is really exciting that Riot Grrrl the Anti-Musical has gained quite a following over the past couple of months–especially our Instagram–and Nicolette and I are even more motivated now to get the script finished. On average, it takes about ten years to get a musical onto the stage, and we want to defy that standard. We are rebels after all. Even though women’s issues are always going to be topics of conversation, we feel like with the way things are in the world now, this is the right time to make some noise, and build a community of women who are all about supporting other women. So it means a lot to us that there are so many women–and even some men–who have contacted us and told us this project resonates with them. So, again, thank you!

We are being interviewed again on Wednesday, this time about the Breaking The Grrrl zine. The introvert in me panics a tiny bit at the idea of being interviewed, but I consider myself to be a fairly adaptable person, and I imagine the panic will start to wane the more I’m subjected to interviews.

We are also toying with a few other ideas in relation to the project, and if we decide to do any of them, we’ll fill you in.

THE MUSICAL

As of last Friday, we have officially finished writing Act One. Here we are, at the beginning of out last writing session, laughing like adolescent boys because the letters in our session collab code.

Screenshot of Sirena & Nicolette goofing off during a writing sesh and laughing about the letters VJJ in our share code.

It was almost as if the script writing program knew what we were writing about.

Unlike a book, which has three acts, a musical only has two, so while we are working on Act Two, we will also be working on the music. Nicolette and I are both writing lyrics, but the music is going to be all Nicolette because I don’t know how to write music. I don’t play any instruments since I quit piano lessons when I was seven, and the only note I can still read on a sheet of music is middle C. It’s important to us that the music in the musical be original, so we’ve been busy, and Nicolette has already shared snippets and samples of the music on our Instagram page, for those that want to take a little peek.

THE ZINE

I’m really excited about the next issue of Breaking The Grrrl, and for those that have already sent in submissions, you know who you are, and I want to say thank you. It’s still a bit surreal to me that people are actually sending us their poetry to include in our zine, and you’ll get your proper shout out and Instagram promo on June 1 when the issue drops. Nicolette regularly posts ads on our Instagram about submissions because we are always accepting them–note that the deadlines are for if you would like your work in the closest upcoming issue. But in case you missed them, I’ve added them below.

That’s all I’ve got for you this time. Stay rebellious, ladies, and riot on!
