Nicolette Blount, a tribal member of the Chickasaw Nation, is an Off-Broadway producer, composer-lyricist, playwright, and performer creating bold, female-driven stories that challenge expectations and amplify underrepresented voices.
She is the first Native American National Dramatists Guild Foundation Fellow, a two-time O’Neill National Music Theater Conference semifinalist, and received an Honorable Mention for the American Playwriting Foundation’s Relentless Award for her show Savage: The Unconquerable Wanda Savage. Savage is a new musical inspired by Nicolette’s Chickasaw great-grandmother, a 1920s sharpshooter and Vaudeville performer. The 2022 developmental workshop production played to full audiences with strong response in MA receiving first runner up for Best New Musical Boston Broadway World Awards and is in preparation for a 29 Hour union industry presentation. Nicolette is the co-creator of the new musicals Riot Grrrl, Off With Your Head, and Bad Girls of the Bible. She is also currently developing a new stage musical built around the music of a legendary female rock artist whose songs defined a generation. Her work centers on powerful women, cultural identity, rebellion, and resilience, blending contemporary music styles with theatrical storytelling.
Nicolette is the founder of NativeTheatreArtists.com, a platform dedicated to increasing visibility for Indigenous and First Nations theatre artists working on and off Broadway. She has spoken at town halls, museums, and industry events, including the Harvard Club, advocating for Native representation in the theatre industry.
Her music has been presented at Joe’s Pub, 54 Below, The Green Room 42, Laurie Beechman Theatre, and Off-Broadway at New York Musical Theatre Workshop. The self-produced concept EP for Savage has been streamed more than 68,000 times.
As a performer, her favorite roles include Miss Hannigan in Annie and Mrs. Andrews in Mary Poppins. As a singer-songwriter, she has toured throughout the U.S. both as a solo artist and in bands and released a solo album Conversations. In addition, she can be heard on a few songs on the Savage the Musical Original Cast EP.
Through her production company, Take My Shot Productions, Nicolette develops and produces new work by emerging artists and is committed to increasing representation in the Broadway industry. She is a co-producer on the Off Broadway show A Commercial Jingle for Regina Comet and for the upcoming musicals Millennials Are Killing Musicals and Joey Contreras’ In Pieces.
